Accessibility
Camp Feral! Is held at the beautiful Camp Arowhon in Algonquin Park. We are committed to making our event accessible to as many people as possible, however the natural setting creates some unique challenges compared to indoor convention settings.
The below information is intended to support potential campers to make an informed decision on whether the facilities for this event meet your personal needs.
Mobility
- Most buildings (including cabins, events and meals) have a small flight of stairs and no accessible ramps.
- Activities are spread throughout the camp, and there are no paved roads. Surfaces range from hard packed dirt, gravel and forest paths. Small wheels can struggle over these surfaces.
- The camp is very hilly. There is a large incline to get to some cabins and event buildings.
- Cars are not allowed on site after load in on the first day, and cannot be used around camp.
Food
- Vegetarian options are available at every meal. Accommodations for most dietary needs, including gluten-free, dairy-free, and more are available.
- Kitchen staff are trained in allergy safety
- Food is served buffet style in the main lodge.
- All campers eat at the same time resulting in the lodge being busy and loud during meal times. There is a picnic table outside and a few tables and chairs on the covered porch if you’d prefer to eat outside.
- Any food kept in cabins should be stored in closed containers. Animals can and will be attracted to food, even when wrapped.
- Coffee, tea and fruit are available outside of meal times
Lodging
- Accommodations are shared cabins with bunk beds housing around 8-10 people. Some 4 person cabins are available.
- Cabins have outlets for low draw electronics. Power capacity is very limited, if you need a powered medical device (ex. CPAP machine) please let us know.
- Beds are single size bunk beds, meant primarily for children. They have a foam mattress and no linens.
- There is no heating and little insulation in the cabins. It can get very cold at night so bring adequate sleeping gear.
- There are no refrigerators in the cabins and the power supply does not support bringing your own.
- Some cabins are further away or up a steep hill. If that is a concern let us know in your cabin assignment request.
Washrooms
- Every cabin has a basic washroom with a toilet and sink. Some are very narrow.
- There are accessible washrooms in the main lodge.
- There are washrooms in main event buildings (rustic lounge, teepee heights) They are all gender neutral or single stalls
- All water is safe to drink in operating buildings and washrooms.
- The bus to camp is a regular yellow school bus with no washroom on board. The trip is about 3.5 hours, with one quick stop part way for washroom access.
- Showers are in their own buildings and are non gendered. They have individual stalls. There will be a time slot dedicated to female identifying people in one of the shower buildings.
Access to care
- There is an onsite nurse to provide first aid and triaging.
- The nearest Hospital and emergency services is in Huntsville, a minimum of an hour drive away
- There is limited access to refrigeration onsite. If you have medical refrigeration needs please let us know before camp.
Service Animals
- The property does not allow animals on site. If you need a service animal with you to attend please contact us.
